German 8,8 cm with unknown fuze

Hello,

Who knows which fuze is on this 8,8 cm shell.

We know that the Germans used British fuzes on own shells and on duplicated foreign ammunition.

The fuze likes British, but I can not find any fuze that has the same inner parts.

The shell will be handed over to the EOD.

Greetings - Antoon

Hello,
Maybe you can't find the solution beause it's not a German 8.8cm. It could be (quite sure) a French Navy 90mm (maybe captured) with damaged fuze Schneider mod 25S

Usually 88 have a sintered metal banding this projectile has two copper bands not sure if this could be a 3.7mm AA round.

I agree with MINENAZ16 , looks pretty much exactly like the French 90mm DCA HE Model 1925 (AA) with the model 1925 Schneider fuze.

BMG50, I hope you can reed German.
German driving bands were made of copper (Kupfer), sintered iron (German abbreviation Fe, FES) or soft steel (Weicheisen) with copper layer on the outside (abbreviation KPS).

As example 3 drawings from 8,8 cm shells with different driving bands.

Has somebody more information about this French Mle 1925 shell? Length with and without fuze, explosive contents, total weight of te shell, etc.

The French AA gun is used by the Germans as 9 cm Flak M.39 (f) and seems to be used in the Netherlands, because the shell on the picture is found in the Netherlands.

Thanks in advance - Antoon

Could be HE, Smk or Prac (same shape).
Length without fuze : 275mm
weight : 9.5kg
filling : about 1.1kg of unknown explosive

What should be the colour and markings of this 90 mm shell? Yellow with black markings????

Yes, yellow body. No info on markings.
For the filling, I found in my doc that model 25/33 (same but with tracer) was filled Pricric Acid/Dinitronaphtalen.

I found this drawing on the internet. Because I do not speak French my question is what the difference is between a shell DCA and a shell OEA.
The shell OEA should have a total length of 385 mm. Should the shell DCA be the same?

Hello,
OEA stands for "Obus Explosif Acier" (Steel HE Shell).
OEFA was also made ("Obus Explosif Fonte Aciérée = Cast Iron HE Shell)
275mm without fuze - 385mm with fuze 25S
DCA stands for "Défense Contre Avions" (=AA, anti-aircrafts). DCA is usually used for guns designation. Official designation of guns are often "Canon CA" (canon contre avion = AA gun)
