german M17 grenade

just picked up this fairly nice M1917 stick grenade
can still see the stenciling on the can
my question is about the small transfer on the top of the can
looks like the kind of transfer you get in those old plastic model kits

anyone know if this is original?
have checked all over the internet but no one mentions any serial/batch number on the top of the can
any suggestions?

its possible Tony, haven't seen this on a stick grenade before
looks a lot like those model car transfers you soaked in water and sort of slid onto the model car

most likely as you suggest, a museum number or something. just thought I would ask the question in case it was something important
haven't noticed this on any other stick grenades so I guess it will remain a mystery

Hi. it has been added,, prob as a refence number.. but defintaly not original to the can, nice Mod 16/17 ...

thanks jeeeensy, thought that would be the case, however, had to ask the question.
this stuff is getting very hard to find out here in Australia
