German SD50 Ally Sleeve Tails

These came with my recent bomb fuse collection, and although
there was no rust holes as such there was a lot of original paint
still remaining,so a carefull blend of mild abrasive to remove the worst rust
patina but not to destroy the paint remaining.

There were a lot of twists in the blades which have all come out nicely
and the bonus is the makers name and date.

The other set of stamps are from the as new tails that i have and thought i would share them with you.

Is it a bit unusual to see a "normal" Waffenamt-stamp instead of Luftwaffe eagle on a Luftwaffe item?

Hi Reino

I suspect these were very late manufacture and as you say unusual
stampings for a luftwaffe item.

Hi Phil,
is there any maker's mark and/or year in the WaA-stamped one ( could be on the cylindrical part ). I'm asking because WaA361 seems to be unknown on lists so far.

:adore: Very,very tasty!

Im sure ive seen that particular waff stamp on the early tails that Mick has?
I will grab a pic next week when i see him.
Both sets is it Phil that are marked? :)

cheers

Hi Reino

Not that i can see as of yet,but will put the cylindrical part under
the magnifier to see if there is anything lurking in the paint.

Do you recognise the makers mark on the older ally fins at all.

Hi Paul
Yes both the ally set and the unissued set are stamped.

The ally set are 1939 with makers mark and the later ribbed type fins have the waff stamp.

Hi, Just caught up with the forum again (my Mrs gave birth to a baby boy last Wednesday!) That is a beautiful set of fins there my friend. In fact this has answered my question about the red identification stripes on the Sd50 bombs at the same time! so thanks Phil for posting. Also never seen the steel and alloy construction before. If you find any more in similar condition please give us a shout. On a personal note, I sent you a PM re Sd50 bits - did you get it? .

Hi Dan

Many Congrats on the new addition to the family, and thought this might coax you out from nappys and all the trimmings:cry:.

They came with a later set of tails which are all steel and just out of luftwaffe storage:tinysmile_classes_t .

I have one more Base plug left which is superb.
If your threads are good in the bomb casing then it should spin on ok with a bit of oil to help it.These i am moving on at 30 which is what they cost me to have made.
I am still trying to locate some lifting eyes ( the correct type ) for the SD50.
If you are interested send me your email and i will send pics of it.

All the Best phil
