German shell.

Hello all,
Any information you could give me on this shell would be most helpful as I know almost nothing about it, it has been re-painted at some point so for starters are the markings correct, also what fired it? it weighs in at aprrox 4.7kg and is approx 9.5 cm in lengh.

My guess(really guessing!) its a ww1 German 7.5cm Shrapnel projectile?

im sure the first world war fans will be along shortly to confirm or give you the correct spec.

Emlyn ,,compare the measurements on this attatched image with your projectile ....take the measurements as shown in cm this will help

Thanks Allan those sizes match the shell I have, so it seems to be a shrapnel,would it have been a 'fixed round' or bag charged ? also just noticed that i said it was 9cm tall in my description slight error there! :tinysmile_cry_t2:

I honestly dont know if fixed or seperate ,,but i will have a look and let you know if/when i find out,,unless some of other members can answer this for you before...
