I took a chance on this case as my initial impression was that it was a cut example of the steel based cases for the 77mm C96 N/a. However, after careful measuring I think it is a German made case for the Russian 76.2 mm M1909 mountain gun. The measurements are rim 87mm, length 190mm and mouth 76mm. These measurements are very close to the case dimensions from the Russian gun. I suspect the Germans captured a few in the early part of WW1 and then made use of them. The only marking I can identify is a 16, which I would take to be the date of manufacture 1916. Glad to have your views. Pictured against an C96 case, length 230mm, for comparison.
