Green smoke box circles on 25 pdr HE shells?

Can someone please explain to me why the 25 pdr HE projectiles are shown with green smoke box circles on the attached document sourced from BOCN? (Refer top LHS 2 - 1941 & 1943.) Not sure of the original source of this document - is it from an ammunition handbook? I wasn't aware 25 pdrs (HEs) were used in an AA role. Was there another reason for the visual indication with a smoke puff?

To observe point of impact. Was standard practice (dependent on HE filling).
