Grenade Indentification

Hi

I'm a new member and wondered if anyone could identify this grenade .I bought it from a miltiaria fair last week , it was heavily painted with black paint with the 3 red X's with a red band, once through the black paint I came across white with a yellow line around it ,the striker pin did not have a slot it was plain . The base plug was aluminium and is fraction bigger than a Mills 36 , also the filler plug is a fraction bigger too, there are no visable markings .
Thanks

Dave

An Israeli drill ? I had one once, (now with spotter) but even the casting on the israeli grenades seemed better than this. It could explain the slightly larger filler hole.
To my very amateur eyes, this does not seem quite right at all!

Looks ok for a drill/throwing practice number 4 grenade. . .ive noticed the quality of the casting can vary between the drill and its live counterpart .ive a practice one and its not the best in casting. ..and I've seen some lovely cast ones with the star marking on body.

Thanks for the info , how would these grenades be finished painted ? if so what colour . Sorry for asking probably simple questions but I'm new to this :)

Cheers

Hi. . Not a problem. . That's what we are all here for.
The one you have would have been white with a yellow band and filled with sand .

Thanks Darrol, that's what I found under the black paint , white and the remnants of a yellow line , wonder why it had been painted black with the 3 red "X's" over the top , are base plugs and filler plugs available for these ? the base plug that was in was alloy and hexagonal and looks quite new.

Dave

If you need a centre tube for one of those Israeli Mills copies , I have one . They are different from the British No36 . Mike.

The base plug is not an original one but there are alot with the same alloy ones knocking about. . Original ones are hard to come by as the filler plug .ther are a good few of these grenades painted like Brit 36s out there. . Someone is trying to make them look like something they are not to make a few quid .
Still a good grenade with a interesting history.

Picking your brains again :) , would this be gloss or matt white any ideas on where would be a good place to look for a base and filler plug for these?

Thanks

Dave

Hi. .the Chances of finding original filler and baseplug are very slim. . been looking for one for a few years myself.I used white spray primer as the main coat. . It is not too matt and can be aged a little if need be.If on my searches I come across any plugs I will let you know.Cheers.Darrol

It has one, but its been drilled opposite the filler, the filler was drilled through aswell , have you any filler plugs how much is the tube?
