I have a ammo box marked H82 mk1 SF JLY 58 SV340A . Its 250 rnd blt but in .30 and was wondering if its for the mounted browning .30 cal on armoured vehicles? .will put a pic up when i have chance .thanks .Darrol.

In 1984 I was with the 14/20 Hussars firing 120 mm Tank APDS on Complete Round Proof (CRP) firings from Chieftain tanks. They also had .30 inch machine guns but were firing them from the ground using tripods. I seem to remember that .30 inch belts could hold varying numbers of rounds: Something like 248, 249 and 250 round belts. I don't remember why they held similar quantities and why not all 250 rounds per belt.

Here's a picture of my H82 for 249 rds of .30 browning from 1967. Why 249 rounds though?
