Photo interesting that confirms the existence of a protective cover for the Kugel grenade. Few document mentions it, which seems to mean that he was may be a test. In the book of Wolfgang Fleischer "Deutsche handgranaten 1914/1945" page 7, the Kugel grenade has a cover, the same as yours, it just misses the locking system which is the body of the grenade that demonstrates your picture.
