I recently added a new Israeli APFSDS-T sub-projectile dart to my collection (Pictured On The Right). Does anyone have a guess on its type designation? On the left is an Israeli M111 105mm projectile stenciled DM23 guessing for German sales, for size comparison.
1) According to JANE'S AMMUNITION, they state that the M111 is Israeli and at one time it was made under license by Germany as the DM23 as well as made in Switzerland. Apparently the round is antiquated and replaced by more advanced 105s.
2) Its design is full of Israeli design features in both the penetrator and sabot.
3) Years ago while visiting Israel, I was given a great tour of the LATRUN TANK MUESUM where I saw old tanks used by Israel with lots of M111 stenciled 105MM rounds stored in ammo racks with-out the German DM23 stenciling. Germany seems to have the projectile assembly stenciled with both IMI and German markings.
You might check to see if Israel manufactured APFSDS-T projectiles for use in captured 100mm Russian guns. I know that Israel makes or buys ammo for captured guns. The company I worked for in California was contracted to produce 2,000 cases for captured 130mm guns.
I know IMI makes a lot of different tank fired APFSDS ammunition for forgien sales as well as for domestic use and they definitly make ammunition for use for captured tanks at one point. I was recently offered an Israeli made 115mm APFSDS dart that was an exact copy of a Russian 115mm.
