hi any info on these shells would be great what ive been told is thethe large one is a 4.5 mk9(GOT MK1 ON IT) NAVAL SHELL thats it the second is a88mm german tank shell that it so any imput would be great
I'm sure your 88mm could have been fired in a Tiger tank, but the projectile is really designed for antiaircraft gun use, due to the splitting creases on the body to facilitate it breaking into shrapnel in the air when it explodes, and yes your other round is a 4.5 inch which was also used in an antiaircraft role.
Hi Michealsnny,
Welcome to the forum, the first round as pointed out by Hazord is a British Naval 4.5" HE round, nice to see one in a matching case, the second round is as identified by Hazord again a WW2 German 8.8cm HE round with the pre-fragmented body for AA use but fitted with a direct action AZ 23 or could be a AZ23/28 fuze can't see from here. And the AA one would normally be fitted with a ZtZS/30 time fuze.
A nice pair of rounds to add to your collection, thank you for showing them,
Best regards Weasel.
