Any one know what this spanned was used for and if it is in any way related to some sort of weapon ?

Over all length 175 mm

Small Jaw 19 mm

Large Jaw 32 mm

I am taking a long shot. Could the I D stand for Infantry Division, or is this an American term?

I am still hoping someone will be able to assist with the identification of this wrench / spanner.
 
Hello, Andy. I do not see the slightest indication that your wrench was made in the USA. The metric dimensions make it highly improbable.
 
oxy/acetylene spanner would also have a square manufactured on one side to 'turn on' the bottles
