The eye of your shell look like a french type but there is no 21 cm shell for france artillery

Thanks

Thank you !!

The old owner tolt me i is a german 21 cm ,,Schwere Wurfmine ,,but on the granade there are no stamps ore signs mention i have a heavy german mortar fuse and the tread is fix with the tread on the granade ... but i am still not sure !!!

Regards David

HI
It is not a German mortar bomb since the driving band is striped as for the shell artillery and does not correspond to the gauge
Can you take the diameter exact of the base and the height too of your shell
It seem a 24 cm French shell

measurments

Ok i have checked the dias the hight is 1020mm and the dia meter on the bottom plate is 210mm .
Maybe the shell is from a howitzer or a Gun not from a Mortar ????
Becaus what you said its correct the guide band is more like from a gun not from a mortar !!!
But the heavy mortar fuse s.w.m.z is fix with the traed on the top side ???

What is typical for a france shell pls explaine me ???

Thanks David

Hi
I think that it misses a gaine with the warhead of your shell but the gauge 21 cm does not exist in France.
German used this gauge but without gaine of eye is the diameter for 21 cm Mle 1896 is of 45mm without modified eye
The stripes of the driving band on the other hand seems well to be of French style but before WW1 and can be even before 1900
Which is the diameter of threading of the eye?
In the eye one sees the site of a vertical pin used for the stopping of the gaine and screwed ogival warheads but once again 21 cm is not a French gauge...
There I do not see more for the moment...
Not projectile of German mortar but short artillery

Does this shell have a bullet hole in the side of it?

From the picture it looks like it does have some sort of hole on the side.

Hole in the side

Yes you are right there is a big hole in the side of the shell i think when this granate was not detonatet on other shell hits the big shell i send some pictures of it !!
I think i found the Granade of a picture in the internet pls experts is it right or i am second time wrong !
Thanks for your great help and your support !!!

Thanks David

I don't think it is the shell in the photo (german 21 cm old mortar) because thats the long 21 cm mortar shell which is shown in the photo and it had a bottom fuze (Bodenznder). Yours got a head fuze.
