This projectile was photographed in a collection today.
No paint markings. No suggestion that paint was ever applied.
Letter "N" stamped on base as shown. No other stamped markings.

The object in the base is a solid plug made of a bakelite type material. It screws into the projectile base and when removed the interior of the projectile is empty.
Wall thickness is quite substantial however I wasnt able to take measurements.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.20160926_094804.jpg20160926_094812.jpg

The first letter of the name "Nordenfelt" Nordenfelt was a well established company in the time that the projectile was manufactured.

Thank you Hazord.
Any ideas why this shell might be in the condition that it is? Never painted, never fired, no other stamp marks, possibly chromed at some point, never filled (I have swab tested the interior).
My thoughts are that it was a drill/display item.
The bakelite/plastic insert is in my opinion not genuine and not associated with the shell. This is how the the shell was presented to me for examination.
Over to the experts!
