Used in Mk VIII and Mk IX torpedoes. Attached a couple of pages from a norwegian study-book used in technical training. The second page shows a test-setup for the piostol (norwegian text).

The location is Kaholmen torpedobattery at Oscarsborg fortress outside Drbak, Norway (famous for sinking the german cruiser Blcher with two "obsolete" Whitehead Vd torpedoes during the german attack on Norway on april 9, 1940). The battery was established in 1900, and phased out in 1994 after several modifications over the years. The Mk VIII torpedo was the last torpedo used.
