History of the Splittergranate RGD-5

I have the manual Die Dienstvorschrift Nr. 052/78 for the Splittergranate RGD-5. The manual is dated December 1978. This seems rather late. Did the east Germans make any other types of rifle grenades earlier? What was the data of introduction 1978 seems late.

I have a question on these... I bought one at a local shop, the red one with the diamond shaped cutouts and no reinforcement ring. I decided to mount an airsoft grenade in its place, but the thread well is much bigger on the East German version than any one else's grenades. Did they make a new version of the RDG-5 for border guard, grenade launcher use?

This is a practice rifle grenade. The thread was used to ensure that only the body of the practice grenade could be screwed on. The same for to the fuze. Since it detonates immediately upon impact, a different thread was used—for instance, to prevent confusion with the RGD-5 detonator.
The original practice detonator was paintet black, if i am correct...
