Humphries No1 Grenade

This was advertised in the US & thanks to another BOCN member who noticed it , I purchased it & it arrived today . Stunning grenade & one I've never owned an example of before . It's bigger than I thought [about the size of a 15 ] & is numbered 64 . I don't know how many were made but , I suspect , not a lot . I think there may be a couple of small parts missing but perhaps Norman can answer this question ? I'm pleased it's now back this side of the pond & will go to British collection .

50 are recorded as being made for trials (at Clapham Common if my memory serves). The No 2 version with tape-safety was considered to be a better design and was the basis for further experimentation leading to the No 30, No 54, No 55 grenades and the ubiquitous 247 fuze.

I will take a look at the parts later in the week.

Mark . Yes . The body has two sprung loaded retaining bolts in each side & these hold a weighted striker in place . When the grenade has its pin removed & is thrown , the bolts push outwards forcing the outer covers off & releasing the striker so when it lands inertia should make the striker hit the det thus exploding the grenade . Probably not very reliable so they were never introduced into service .

As promised a photo showing all the parts. Seemingly you are missing the cap carrier in the mechanism.
