What is this it looks like the tail from a 2" Mort but it's Ali and never been cleaned up , what you see is after a quick wash is the way it was dug up?

Correct thread.

By the looks of it you have an early experimental fully "Extruded" tail fin section form a 2 inch Mortar, I have heard that trials were conducted in the early 50's ? but the difficulties in production were not easily and cost effectively overcome and the trials were halted.

I believe that a company called "Wavis machine tool company" in Birmingham made the profiling machines but it was the extrusion operation that was problematical.

Very nice fin set and in superb condition for a dug up!
