Hi,
Does anyone recognize this item as being a W.W.2 British ordnance item? It is made of bakelite and measures 200mm in length with a diameter of 47mm. It is stamped in white paint with a Broad Arrow and "CV 1.41 LOT No.1", 1.41 being I suppose the date. The reason I think it is British ordnance is because of its red filling ring. Thanking you all in advance and hoping to hear from some of you very soon.

Sound simulator for 25 pounder gun ???????


just a side note if you have a Australian No69 grenade and its missing its filler screw the red screw on these fits perfectly and is a good color match........ Dave

It is an artillery simulator. An electric detonator goes in the end with the small hole. There is an internal chamber down the center, that contains flash powder. You are supposed to fill the rest of the body with gasoline through the hole with the red plug. The combination of flash powder igniting the gasoline is supposed to resemble an artillery detonation.

We have used them here in the states. Assume it is live! Flash powder, even though a low explosive is classified as a high explosive due to the sensitivity and violent way it detonates!

Sawing or drilling into the inner chamber can cause detonation from friction if any of the flash powder is pinched between the tool and bakelite body!
