I give up on this one.

OK, it is a bookend.:tinysmile_fatgrin_t

Aside from that, any thoughts?

It is one of a pair. The other one is unmarked.

It is cut off at the bottom leaving a length of 5.75". It is 3.1" at it's widest and tapers to 2.9" at the bottom.

The marks are

11 1/2 LB I
SSE 43

I have a suspicion that it is a bomb of some sort.

I'd love to hear what you all think.

28 Pound Aircraft Bomb ?

At first glance I would say that it could be a 28 Pound Practice Bomb except that it says 11 1/2 Lb !
However, could it be an Armour Piercing Bomb ?

Being as you say you have two, is the other one the "other half" of the one in the picture ?

I think so. It is, though, unmarked.

The brass thingie on the tip looks like it would have a pin attached that would detontate the thing.

Bingo!!

Excellent, thank you.

Spotter, you have it right. The hollow bit was filled with lead as part of the head weight. It is a nose sectioned 11.5lb a/c practice bomb. The tail would have been filled with titanium tetrachloride. The lead was very valuable and often removed for a cash reward...The eara was 1930 - 1950 British of course! This particular one is 1943 issue
