I have always wondered....

I have been thinking about this detonation of an atomic bomb, even trying to guess what it is. What are the white/yellow streaks on the left hand side of this photo?

I was told that those were rocket telemetry.

John, you are correct. The rockets were specifically designed to leave a good smoke trail. They were fired just prior to detonation of the test item, visible effects on the smoke trail allowed for measurement of the different levels of effect at different altitudes and different distances from the point of detonation.
