I think it's a Smoke BE and post WW2? Can someone confirm this or identify this shell correctly? No markings visible due to the light corrosion.

It indeed looks like a U.S. M116 base ejection smoke. I've seen them date back to at least 1944. It is threaded for the older style 1.4 inch diameter Mech Time Fuze.
