When I was stationed in germany the german army used identical looking links for the MG42. it was loaded using a crank hopper. In use from WWII to current.

Don't know right now for what weapon the belt is - but for sure NOT for any MG 42 alike weapon. They all have open links, as the bolt feeds the cartridge through the belt and the shown belt is a closed belt - so the cartridge has to be extracted to the rear out of the belt.

Taucher, can you post a picture of the starter tab? There should be markings on it.
I believe this is an interwar german 250rd belt for MG08 and MG08/15.

Belt !!

I gues also it looks to be a pice of a 250 round belt for a Russin Maxim MG 08 !!

But not 100 % sure

Regards David

For sure not for the russian Maxim, but for the german MG 08 or MG 08/15 is a good guess.
