Is this an arming vane?

This was found buried in the grounds of the Manx Aviation & Military Museum. We are on an old Royal Navy training airfield. There are no markings on it - I assume they were on the central alloy section which is badly corroded. It measures approx 3 inches (76mm) wide.

Ordnance really isn't my field, so can anybody identify it, please?

Looks like it might be from a British P23 tail fuze

Looks like a no.23 tail pistol vane for the Smoke float mk.1, search here on the forum you'll find a bit of info and some nice pics.

Thanks, guys, that's very feasible. The FAA used a lot of smoke floats here.
