Is this sectioned thing military related?

Having got an I.d for the heliograph alignment device (thanks Drew) I thought I would try my luck with this thing. It is 5.25 inches long and have bits that screw in and out. The photos will explain better than words. There are no markings of any sort but obviously somebody thought it was worthy of being sectioned.
Any thoughts?

We’ll spotted sgdbdr! I had realised it was in the wrong place, took a new photo then added the wrong photo to the post! See the attached which should have been included in the post.
