Italian Post WWII Grenades?

Grenademan2005

Id like to know, see, etc, grenades from Italy just ended the WWII. Drawings, pics, manuals, etc, are welcome. What grenades Italy adopted within the end of the WWII? It continued with the "Red Devils" Otto, Breda and SCRM? Or what? :viking:

In 1982 the OD/82 came out to replace the 'oltimer' SRCM35.

This grenade (the OD/82-E-1) is the practice version of the Bombe a mano OD/82-HE (SE). The SE version is the one with improved safety "SICUREZZA ELEVATA"

This type of grenade was decommissioned in 2005 after several fatal accidents with failing safety features and premature detonation (Normally 4 Sec; 0 Sec delay during operational testing was discovered !)

All this info is for very modern grenades, Id like to know more just from the end of WWII to 50s-60s as much. Of course, thank you anyway for pics and info. :top:

Miguel,

Perhaps this is more what you are looking for. The first two photos were taken about 20 years ago at the Picatinny Arsenal Museum. These were the first post-war Italian grenades I'd ever seen and snapped a couple photos, even though they weren't complete examples. We didn't have time to look at the catalog cards so I wasn't able to gather any technical data at all. I'd appreciate any information you can add.

The last three photos are of the one in my collection. It is completely unmarked and slightly different from the Picatinny ones. The Italian style pull tabs on all of these are made of steel, not the rubberized fabric of the WWII grenades.

The italian army used the SRCM after WWII until 1982 ! It's first successor/replacement was the OD/82

Orpheus72, yes Italy used the same model as WWII, but with some changes and from other maker, (SETA), until 80s, myself sold some time ago one of the moderns SCRM, I believe a practice one. BUT what happened with the Oto and Breda grenades? Where are the Italian members of the forum? :captain:

I'm here!

at the end of the ww2 the italian army adopted the Mills and the Mk2 from allied stoks.
Next it was decided to adopt a single type bomb and became a contest;
which participated numerous Italian and foreign prototypes (as the CMSR).
But the winner was, again, the SRCM35! Which was considered more secure, and the oto and breda were sent to arsenal and demolished, as the safety device was present on SRCM just. The "new" srcm was produced by the military arsenals and not from privates. It was replaced from a new grenade in the 1982 : the OD-82, but the new shell is out of production soon, due to some malfunction, causing some injuries (including mine!). The new grenade, now adopted, is the spanish Alhambra DO, with some change for italian service. The MU-50 was used by special teams just, and in a little number. Take a look for my OD-82 story at http://www.lexpev.nl/grenades/europe/italy/od82.html

TOP POST, Francesco! Great! Do you know if the Oto or the Breda grenades were improved after the war, or just removed from the army without a new version of them.

Here is my Italian post war grenade....it is marked only CMSR....it is exactly like WW2 SRCM Bomba a mano grenade pictured with it. I am not sure of it's age, if they were made until 1982! Maybe this one is from 50's-60's I think.

You get lucky sometimes. I only collect WW2, so I sold it a while back. I only have the WW2 version now, which also has the charge container.

Ok,ok I've find some info about the CMSR Mod.1952.....
the grenade is a prototype from the Italian inventor Ettore Manzolini;
he worked for the "Societ Romana Costruzioni Meccaniche" (srcm) and
he is the father of SRCM Mod.35....and he wanted to participate in the race for the new grenade, founding the new company "Cmsr" (Srcm with the reversed letters ??). Very strange is the SRCM35 of Kilroy with the cmsr stamp on; I knew that grenades production, after the war, was given exclusively to military arsenals, such as SETA (Spolettificio Esercito Torre Annunziata) and the SMMT (Stabilimento Militare Munizionamento Terrestre) and not to private companies (as SRCM or CEMSA or SCM)!
About the Oto and Breda I know a Breda Mod.50 Export (a private venture completely different frome the old Mod.35) and a picture of a modified Oto, but nothing else....
