I purchased a small selection of Japanese fuzes today but I can't remember what this type is . Can someone kindly remind me ? Thanks !

Mike,

The markings indicate Mountain Gun, Type 88. This is a Short Delay and Graze fuze. There might be a date marking as well elsewhere on the body.

Tom . It would appear that a lot of Japanese fuzes are designated as Type 88 . Is this usual ? Thanks , Mike.

Mike, the Type corresponds (usually) with Japanese year. Type 88 is our 1928. Type 91 (as in hand grenade) is 1931, Type 97 1937, etc. I suppose 1928 was a good vintage for gun and howitzer models.
