King Edward VIII coronation plate

On the plate it says "May 12 1937". But it happened in 1936. It it a fake? May someone explain, please.

He came to the throne on 20th January 1936 following his father's death and then abdicated on 11th December 1936. He was never crowned. A very considerable quantity of memorabilia was created in anticipation of his Coronation, which never took place.
