Evening All,
Just wondering if anyone is planning to visit the Krigsmuseet (Danish War Museum) in Copenhagen?
They have a book I'm after in the Museum shop (museum publication), however they don't ship anywhere - not even to a Danish bookstore, who was willing to ship international.
(You can only purchase the book instore)

A fair few years ago I'd have recommended visiting the without a second thought.
The kit they had was interesting, in some cases unique, and the uniformed curators knew about the items on display plus those in storage or renovation.
Now, meh...

If you've been to the IWM or NAM in recent times you'll know what I mean.


I believe the Tøjhusmuseet/Krigsmuseet had at one stage the largest collection of seventeenth century colours and standards, apparently they couldn't preserve them all as union rules forbade the use of unpaid volunteers.
Political dogma before the preservation of historical facts, quite a familiar refrain these days.

A lot of the exhibits are mislabelled, possibly by mistake, in some cases so's not to "offend."
eg. In a section about the Royal Danish Navy's involvement in the counter-piracy operations, there was a firearm labelled as "an AK47 from an alleged pirate arrested off the coast of Somalia."
First it wasn't a 47, honestly can't remember what it was but possibly an AMD-65.
Second, they insist on noting the cutthroat as an "alleged pirate." The suspect was picked up after climbing from a skiff onto a civvy cargo vessel while armed with a 7.62 x 39 selective fire weapon.
To paraphrase Harry Callaghan, I figure he wasn't out collecting for the Red Cross.

They had an exhibition on the Danish contribution to OP HERRICK, and as I had been attached to them for a tour found the exhibition interesting mainly for the parts the museum management didn't like and chose to ignore.

Unless you're interested in something particular in the book I wouldn't bother.
However if you can't live without it I'll ask my oppo to see if he can get one next time he's in Copenhagen, though unless you're very rich he'll need a title so he doesn't get all the books on sale.

What book? I'm conisdering a visit to the Danish National Archives in Copenhagen soon.
I always browse the musum's bookshops, but I can't remember seeing anything torpedorelated when I was there last august.
 
My apologies - I didn't want to "cluster" my request with book details etc unless someone was intending to visit the Museum.

The book is of course torpedo related:

If it happens to be on "sale" - great, but the normal price 100 DKK (~$15 USD) anyway.

Ok. I highly doubt it's still available due to the usual very limited prints of such publications. I bought mine 15 years ago, shipped to Norway without any issues (I don't remember were I bought it, but it was not the museum).
Here is probably the last one found in a second-hand bookshop: https://www.bogtorvet.net/danske-torpedoer-1868-2008-toft-madsen-kaj_2345637

For a few years there have been more or less a monopoly for shipping packages out of Denmark, and the provider "PostNord" is useless, hence most shops won't send anything abroad :-/ It helps to have danish friends :)
Anyway, it's only about 130 pages in A5+ format, so it's probably easier for me to just do the 60 scans for you regardless if I go to Denmark/Copenhagen or not.
