The Lascaris War Rooms are a series of bunkers that were built by the Royal Engineers into much older tunnels just above Valetta harbour. They were used during WW2 to plan and command the defense of Malta and the invasion of Siciliy. They are worth a visit if you are ever in the area. Apparently Eisenhower sat at the desk in the thirp photo.
