Mai 1988, native rebels of New Caledonia called Kanaks attack provincial gendarmes killing 4 and taking several dozen hostage https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1242521/ right before the French general election. Paris dispatches Armee de Terre and GIGN (a special anti terrorism police unit) to quell the uprising. A lot of talking in French and a lot of tropical vegetation, then a lot of shooting and screaming. Some very imaginative directing in this movie. But the last I've checked it still belonged to France.
