Does anyone know when they started to paint the lower portion of the M10A2/A3 spoons black? Was this done during the war or post WW2? I read in TM 9-1905 that it was to signify a modification but that manual was dated 1948. The picture attached shows the bottom portion of the spoon and it appears black. I assume this is a WW2 photo and not an immediate post war picture. The soldier is wearing M-36 suspenders and still utilizing the M1907 sling. I may be wrong but M36 suspenders began to be replaced by the M44s late and surelypost war. Thank you all for your time.
