m18 flat top yellow smoke

Here is a vintage flat top M18 yellow smoke grenade that I got on gun broker. It got here 6 days after I sent off money order. I think this to be from Vietnam era (it certainly could have been) and had been looking for one for a while...Dano

Dan,

that is the correct one for a Vietnam smoke grenade as is the color too. You can also twist off the fuze. It should be a M201A1 which will be short and stubby. However be careful when twisting it off that you do not slip and mess around with the Fuze. If the spoon where to fly off, you will have approximately 1-2 seconds before fire comes out the bottom of the fuze. If it were to pop while taking the fuze off (It is really easier to do than that). The fuse should also have the pull-pin ending on the other side of the fuze with the pin being folded flat against the igniter. Is that on yours? All of mine were like this.
hat you would have standing nearby just in case that 1% happens.

I have had 20 - 30 cans of it over the last 30 years or so and I can tell you that not one went off, never, in my hand. But just in case, and this is a "just In Case" event, toss it into a bucket of water.

One thing I forgot to add in the previous post is the following: Sometimes the AN-8's and M-18's came with the cotter pin and ring on one side and they ended on the other side with a "Semi-Split Pin". What this means is that the one cotter pin is turned flat aginst the igniter and the other part would be sticking up in a perpendicular way from the fuze.

Sorry to all for this major mistake on my part.
