OK ... here are some pictures of the M246. It is a 30-MM round that I believe goes to the PGU-15/B. Can anyone tell me anything about this round? I am almost positive that is it U.S. although it could be French.

Joe

Hi Joe,

I think the M246 is part of the lotnumeber, not the designation... (see attachment).

The M246 is a 20x102 HEI-T-SD round
If i'm not mistaken, your projectile is a PGU-15A TP round for the GAU-8/A gun

Right PGU 15 is the TP round for the GAU 8. I loaded several thousand of these when I worked for General Dynamics. I haven't looked up the Lot number but GD and ATK were both loading them since 1998. When Olin defense (then became Primex before GD bought them) was operating they also loaded the TP and the others. Prior to Olin Ford aerospce also loaded them.
