M67 Draw Set

Here's another one I thought the grenade enthusiasts might like to see. It's a manufacturer's draw set of components of the M67 grenade. Several of the parts are marked with felt pen production code info and dated 1971 or 1972.

The flat plate the extreme left is a sample of the roll coined steel sheet stock the M67 halves are made from. This same pattern and steel alloy was used in several other ordnance items such as 40mm grenade projectiles and submunitions.

To the right of it is a stamped upper shell with the center hole punched, ready to received the fuze neck. On the right is a short length of steel tubing trimmed and threaded to make the neck.

The next image shows the upper portion with the threaded neck welded to the body half. On the right is the grenade's lower half sphere ready for assembly to the upper half.

On the left in third photo is a body after the halves have been spun together to weld them. In the center is a complete assembly after passing through a trim die to remove the excess weld flash. The grenade on the far right is one produced by the alternate method of manufacture with the body halves, as well as the neck, brazed together instead of welded.

thanks for the pics Rick.
cheers, paul.

Rick,
nothing short of magnificent! Now it makes sense on why you still can see the fragmentation thru the steel cover I believe.
