I recently picked up a 1938 8,8cm Übung Weiss projectile which also came with the base screw-in plug.
Along with the black III indicating the weight class and white Üb W there is black stencilling on the projectile towards the bottom:
Bk.23.8.40.EL.
The L is not super clearly visible so could be another letter. I know this is supposed to be the place, day, month, year, and number of the loading of the projectile itself. So August 23 1940. Does anyone know what place Bk corresponds to? https://oldmilitarymarkings.com/codes_full_alpha_a-b.html says Metall-, Walz- u.Plattierwarenfabrik Hinrichs u. Auffermann Plattierwerke Hindrichs Auffermann AG, Wuppertal, but I am not sure if that's the correct Bk. I know the same info for the production of the actual projectile should be present towards the top, but this is unfortunately no longer visible due to some rust.
Next to the KPS and Ub W stamps for the copper driving bands and projectile type the projectile is stamped with:
(WaA stamp) 31 bDL 38.
Next to a serial number 9512 and two WaA438 stamps, the bottom screw cap is stamped with:
1 DL 2 38
Does anyone know if these provide info on where the projectile was manufactured? Good to note that both the screw cap and bottom rim of the projectile are stamped with 9512 which I assume is some kind of serial number. The inside of the screw cap is stamped with a WaA438, 1|2, and a circle with what looks like a crown inside. Perhaps someone has any info on these?
I'd be thankful for any info on these markings!
