Am I right in thinking all post-War tins (for 3 dets) were just red-painted and not marked/stencilled on the side?

No , they can be fully marked .

I think it would depend at what stage thy reached at the packing department, thy would not have been filled with dets with out markings, ,,,,,,, Dave

Hi,

The following tins are all post-war with markings.

First on the left is dated May 1952, filled by ICI/W, second from left is dated July 1957, also filled by ICI/W and the 3rd from left is dated February 1972, filled by ICI/A.

It's not really relevant, but the plain aluminium tin is Belgian, filled by PRB and dated 10/66.

There have been a lot of detonator tins on the market recently, with and without markings - does anyone know where they all came from?

There have been a lot of detonator tins on the market recently, with and without markings - does anyone know where they all came from?

that's what prompted my question - a lot of unmarked tins have been coming up for sale on SA/ebay lately... I imagined maybe they were no longer marked when they started to come in tubes with the grenades rather than in the crates. have just bought some tins dated 1952 on base (unmarked).
