My first thread was titled 6pr. this was incorrect of course. So this is the progress
to date and it's as far as I dare go without seeing images of another more complete
example. What has been done with the help of another who was abble to machine a missing trunnin block is the following.
3 missing bolts on the base have been replicated
The missing traverse locking bar on the mounting has been replicated (the thread was 2.5mm metric so I'm pretty sure this is French made.).
The missing trunnion block has been made and a spacer plate that goes in front of them to keep them in place has been made also.
(What a complete one has in this location is a mystery - but something had to be there.)
The shoulder rest has been re-attached with a small dovetailed brass piece that fits into the mounting recoil unit at the end of the left
recoil cylinder unit. The empty front cyinders which were oil filled buffer cyinders have solid brass inserts in thm now to at least look proper.
These screw into the spacer plate and lock everyting in place.
A breech operating handle unit has been made and the breech operates - just barely.
If I can clear the hole where hte rear sight went I can make something to replace to snapped of one.
Things I don't know, did it have a shield - no idea, one could easily drop in where the spacer plate is, but that is contary to the real gun as the shield
is fiixed and does not elevate or depress. The barrel unit just drops intot he two trunnion blocks, what was there to hold them in place ? I've no idea.
If any one ever spots another of these post the images it would e a great help.
Barrel length muzzle to breech end is 5 3/4" , height witg gun level is 4 1/8" including base.
