MKII question

Don't remember if I ever asked this or not....

Had this piece for many years. Appears to be a standard MKII body, plugged bottom, stamped L in a diamond on the side. The fuze well however is larger than normal, and has a fine thread. The piece (fuze?) shown in the photos came with the grenade.

I've placed a normal MKII alongside for comparison, on the right in the photos. Thoughts?

No fact here, but I ahd one that was very similar, was told it was an early US MK II or late model MK I - 1939 - 1939 time frame. Don't have the grenade any more but I'll check to see if I have any pics.

Getting ready for a new snow storm, it's 52 degree F right now, tonight the rain comes them tomorrow we are suppose to see 7 to 10" of snow. What a way to start spring

I'm pretty sure what you have is part of a MK II that was turned into a cigarette lighter. We have a few around the office and have documented at least one for a project. I'll see what I can dig up on Monday.

I think it is a Chinese, Vietnamese or Korean version of the MK2

I'd heard this before, but on close inspection disagree, this grenade is of a higher quality of manufacture than any of the countries mentioned were putting out through around 1970. The threads, finish, etc are all much better than typical pieces from any of the three.

Jeff,

Here is one we documented. I don't have a convienent picture of the bottom but I do recall it being drilled and replaced with what is essentially a new filler plug for the fluid container.

it looks like you have the main piece but are missing the side attachment that holds the flint and the wheel.
