I am trying to find out more info on this type of grenade CRG type. The bottom appears to screw out revealing a reloadable base with vented holes and a hole for a cartridge to fit. Was this grenade a reloadable blank firing grenade or a smoke grenade, what type of cartridge did it use, looks like an interesting bit of kit.

The CRG-42 is using a special (and shortened) 12 GA blank cartridge. Unfortunately I can not say how they arranged for the delay.

I did try to look for a thread on this topic but did not look hard enough, sorry about repeating the topic.

I get a clear picture to how the cartridge is positioned but does the cartridge have a delay in it or is the leader striker made to have a delay?

The delay is in the fuze just. As you can see in the picture it is a 3 seconds delay. The 1st picture it is in normal position; the 2nd after fire with the hammer out; the 3rd is the hammer pin who strikes the cartridge cap.fuze1.jpg

So the pin is pulled the lever flys off the striker, sets of a cap that has a 3 second delay, which then sets off a charge that forces the hammer striker to hit down on to the primer of the shotgun cartridge, setting that off.
