Mystery experimental projectile

Dez Broton

Hello all,

I have this mystery piece that appears to be an experimental projectile based on its colour. Aside from that ive no idea what it may be for or its value.

The markings to the best of my abilities on it read;
8/AMM 1579
P8/(T?) 5817 /E/M/D/8
RLB 1/6
SERIAL NO 79
C68

Any assistance or knowledge identifying it would be much appreciated.

Regards, Dez

Manufactured by ROF Birtley and the Purple colour indicates experimental...

It looks like it is designed for the 76 mm Armoured Car gun, but the driving band looks far too far back for a fixed round which is what the 76 was.. maybe an experimental separate loading early prototype for the 76?

Too thick for a HESH, but could just be a ballistic dummy for proof of concept.

I was thinking it should be one of these if dressed completely... But this one is a Canadian example, and a squash head practise.
