Need help identifying a projectile

I have a projectile that is around 82 mm in diameter at the base and 254 mm in height. It is hollow with a ring at the bottom that has a hole in it. the top is a screw on cap with a square hole in it leading to threads. I am looking for help with identifying this projectile and what the B U marking means on the bottom. Thanks._20151126_115558 (1).jpg_20151126_115613 (1).jpgIMG_20151126_115404144 (1).jpg_20151126_115525 (1).jpg_20151126_115542 (1).jpg

It looks like an 18Pdr shrapnel shell. Most likely produced in the U.S. to be sent to England in WWI.

Yes, 18 pdr shrapnel, and nickel plated and made into a lamp by the looks of it with the hole for an electric cord.
