It looks like a 3.7" Anti Aircraft Gun case.

Thanks very much for that info really much appreciated, there was no dot between the 3 and the 7 on it
am new to collecting this stuff, will have a few other cases tomorrow to put up for id

Not a shell, which is the projectile, but a cartridge case.
