Two new items I need help with, please.
Firstly,a 20mm FF - can any one tell me why it has 3 colours on it? Blue/yellow/green.Dated 1941. Presume it's IE , but why the green AND yellow?
The other is a MG17 V munition PMK , which is incendiary. What happened to the bullet after leaving its casing? Did it smoke, catch fire when hitting the target etc.? The black rim denotes tropical - but what was different about it to make it "tropical?"

Any help appreciated as always

Thanks

Roger

20mm FF German.jpgI cannot help with the green colour but I have two examples.
BT J1 40. 12b with AZ 1504 fuze similar to yours. Brass wash steel case.
Mine Trop eek 42 with ZZ 1505 fuze. Brass case.
These are my only 20mm FF cartridges with the green and yellow colours.

looks like green, but the yellow is paint thinner, ik think there,s some blue paint under the yellow paint.

Your round is a Brandsprengpatrone L.spur M, Zerl Highexplosive incedairy Tracer with self destruction, Red band for the tracer is not painted on.

The PmK cartridge;

In the middle of the bullet was a hole drilled and closed with a piece of lead.

When the bullet was driven true the barrel the lead melted and the phosphor streamed out of the hole, showing smoke.
The rest of the phosphor ignited when the bullet hits the target.

The tropical ring was a sealing to provide air coming into the case. (High-low temperatures)
