Hi all,

these 2 No 36s arrived today, both bodies made by Qualcast, they have the maker characteristic slant on the top lugs. Both base plugs dated 1972,made by Royal Ordnance Factory, Patricroft as are the levers. Both centre tubes also 72 dated marked W2.

A very nice addition to my collection, i reccon late 36s are probably more scarce than 23/111s as you do see these come up on Specialist and the bits on feebay but i only seem to remember 1 1972 gren at auction since 2005.

Very pleased with them.

Andy

No 36 WMR

Hi Charlie,

yes they are in excellent condition, really nice finds.

Andy,

If you really want to be pedantic about (one of) these you could replace the filling hole plug with a piece of white linen tape. My take on these is that they have come out of store having been help empty as a part of war maintenance reserve. If I am right they would have not have had the filler hole plug inserted - you might even see where the tape was fitted.

Hi Norman,
one of them has lost a little of the shellac in an area over the filler hole, as if something once stuck over it has been removed. Its the only area of blemish on the gren so ime sure you are right. Would this have been something like elastoplast? It would also explain why there are no filler or live gren markings.
Thanks for that.

Andy,

It is a bit of white linen/calico tape about 2" x 1", probably just a bit thinner than elastoplast.

Hi again Norman,
did as you said, aquired a bit of the original tape for the filler hole and masked it over as it should have been. I will keep this one as is in my collection.
Thanks

Andy

Looks just the ticket Andy. Good to keep it original.
