New guy needs help

I need help identifying a roundgiven to me by a very good friend as a gift. I believe that the round may be a 75mm round. I honestly dont know but maybe the pictures will help you. Im a a loss over what it is, what it goes into and where its from. PLEASE HELP!!!


Heres the full round. No markings on the casing. Round has all the markings

Markings on base of shell. Looks like a 7 and then 5A


Looks like a proof on base. Looks kind of like 0-l but all pieces attached in a circle. There is also another proof that looks like a bad horseshoe


Numbers written on base reads GS16


Proofs on side B in a circle and somthing that i cannot tell left of the B

Bottom of fuse piece? Cap unscrews Clockwise (Left tight Right loose)


Cap of fuse piece? no markings.

Floaty piece inside fuse piece?


I think thats about it i can give you. If anyone has any ideas what this thing is its gladly welcomed. Im new at this so please help the new guy out.

We also need to see a clear pic of the headstamp on the base of the brass cart. please.

Other details to help with ID would be cart. mouth diameter (or proj. diameter) & overall length of the brass cart. (preferably in MM).

US Manufactured HE round for the Russian WWI 76.2mm Field Gun. Nice to find with the complete fuze.

I second what frizzen said. You might think it is rare in the U.S. to find such a round, but they are actually rather common. The U.S. manufactured millions of these to send to Russia during WWI. We ended up copying their fuze design (the one you have). WHen the war came to an end, there were a number of these still in the U.S. that hadn't been sent to Europe. They usually show up in the Eastern U.S. as most all of the manufacturing was in the Eastern U.S.

Cool thanks for the info HAZORD and Frizzen. Just a few questions though. Is there a designation for the round? What kind of field gun? Like Zis guns or other? Whats one of these worth complete like this?
