You have a 3 inch/76mm U.S. Army M79 AP-T projectile. These were fired in the 76mm tank guns on the Super Shermans like the one in the movie Kelley's Heros, or the 3 inch gun in the M10 Tank Destroyer. There was a thread about the same projectile type about a week ago. Click on the hyperlink below:
The manual for the M10 is in the Downloads section of the BOCN Archives. Here is a drawing (poor) of the round that your bullet fits. The 3 inch cartridge case used in the M10 was the same as the antiaircraft guns listed. Your bullet could have been fired in the AAA guns in a direct-fire application against armor. The second drawing is from the ammunition Inspector's Guide TM 9-1904.
