New member/mystery projectile

Hello,

I am a new member. I live in New York.

I purchased this projectile at auction. I would like to learn more about it.

It is ~75mm diameter.

The only markings I can see are on the base. It is stamped "PV"
Can you identify it or suggest a good source ?
Thank you very much,

Since your example is marked the same, I'm thinking it is a manufacturer's identification. Here is another posting with a little info:

http://www.bocn.co.uk/vbforum/threads/43248-Identification-Tips?highlight=M10+tank+destroyer

The manual for the M10 is in the Downloads section of the BOCN Archives. Here is a drawing (poor) of the round that your bullet fits. The 3 inch cartridge case used in the M10 was the same as the antiaircraft guns listed. Your bullet could have been fired in the AAA guns in a direct-fire application against armor. The second drawing is from the ammunition Inspector's Guide TM 9-1904.
