New No. 23 Mk. I Base Plug

Just got this one today. The threaded hole for the rod was either filled on purpose or the rod broke off leaving the end piece stuck in the hole. Any opinions?

I agree. I think the rod must have rotted away leaving the staining on the brass around the hole. The threads are perfect with no damage. There is just a little bit of dirt in between the threads. I don't mind that it is pluged up. I think I'll leave it alone. It also has a very nice patina on the brass.
Thanks Guys!

It's not the normal type of Kenrick 23 Mk 1 either, which was normally brass hollowed out with a bar across the centre holding the rod. That type was a bit weak and sometimes the rod punched through into the grenade on firing.

Nice plug.

Hi John,

i have sold a few of these in the past of both types but came across this type the most.

Brass plugs had a habit of failing so i have been told.
