new US head stamp?

I have just added a new 37x135R round to my collection. It has a head stamp of SMC Co,1917 date, anchors and JBS inspectors stamp on rotating band. Anyone know this company? Probably WW1 contract from some civilian metal shop. thanks, the Otter
